Here in the San Francisco Bay area we have a public radio station, KALW, with an excellent call-in format – Your Call Radio. As a response to May Day, Rose Aguilar who hosts the show, devoted an entire program to the question “Who is the working-class.?”
The major theme of those who called in was that to galvanize the demands of the working-class we need a General Strike! The question of the unemployed and under-employed was not dealt with. The focus was on cutbacks and electoral strategies to regain a distant past.
Programs like this are so rare but when they do occur they are very frustrating. Taxing the rich is not a program for revolutionary change.
